Attending Linda’s workshops has been a vital part of being able to develop my writing skills and inspire me to continue. My preference is screenplays, but Linda’s varied experience is ideal for all types of writing and it’s not often you can find a tutor who covers all these aspects, giving constructive criticism and bespoke advice in a conducive environment. She is extremely adept at listening and focusing on each student’s piece of work and you will never fail to learn something each week. I also refer to Linda’s book on ‘How to Write Great Screenplays’ which has been a great asset to me. I would highly recommend her lively and enjoyable classes.

Linda was incredibly patient and supportive as she coaxed a plot and characters from me. In the warm atmosphere of fellow writers, I was encouraged and gained valuable advice from reading sections to the group for feedback. I would highly recommend Linda’s classes for raw beginners, those who have stalled, and those who need a ‘leg up’ to the next level with their writing.

Linda is more than a teacher, she’s a mentor. She has an intrinsic grasp of the craft of storytelling and she is more than willing to share her secrets with the class. Linda’s feedback is honest but constructive and always insightful. I would highly recommend Linda’s classes to anybody.

I found the advice from Linda to be invaluable in the development and publication of my novel – The Realignment Case  – published on 27th March 2015. Before attending the course, I had been trying – and failing – to write the story as a short for some time and it only took Linda one session to pinpoint where I was going wrong: the story was complex enough to justify a novel. Linda teaches a great technique to get characters ‘talking’ which makes writing a novel so much productive and enjoyable.

Linda’s course is outstanding, she is a very supportive teacher who gives great advice and will help you in any way she can. Due to my children’s football matches coinciding with her course, unfortunately, I am unable to continue attending. Instead I spend every Sunday afternoon on the side-lines wishing I was in that cosy room with a mezze of intelligent, interesting, diverse and entertaining writers whom I greatly miss for their personalities and like-mindedness! You will depart Horsebridge every week, with your brain buzzing and your belly on fire with inspiration.

I have attended several script-writing courses run by Linda M James, and I feel that my writing has greatly benefited from her instruction In my case I progressed from having no script-writing experience to completing a film script and two radio plays, all of which received good reports from the BBC Writers Room.

Having attended Linda’s short story and script writing courses over several years, I can recommend her to anyone, whether they wish to write for pleasure or a possible career. She has lots of inside knowledge on how to break into the publishing and broadcast world. As well as having an inspired critical ear with constructive, spot-on editing advice. She combines this with an infectious enthusiasm.

I first met Linda James when I attended her scriptwriting class (I actually wanted to join her novel-writing class but it was full and no one ever seemed to want to leave!). I’d never tried scriptwriting before but had a really enjoyable time trying. Linda was always encouraging and was somehow able to criticise without ever giving offence, offering really sound, helpful advice. Her classes are a joy to attend.

Linda James was an inspiration to me when I attended her creative writing classes. I was new, nervous and not at all sure what to expect. We were very much a mixed bunch, in levels of ability and aspirations, but I was soon feeling comfortable, and inspired by Linda who was able to bring out the best in all of us. Her talent for listening, assessing and sensitively analysing work, whatever the skill level or subject, is wonderful. She is a gifted teacher.

Having studied writing with Linda over the last eight years, I can confidently say she is stimulating, thought-provoking, entertaining, challenging, inclusive, inspiring, warm, encouraging, imaginative and fun. Since joining her classes I have completed many radio plays, am in talks with a BBC Producer and have been short-listed for a Radio Play Award.
